Hassel Island
Once a peninsula of St Thomas, the Danish used to use it as a strategic defence point for its harbor in the eighteenth and nineteenth century. Fort ruins  can still be seen from the British occupancy during the Napoleonic Wars. Most famed for its Creque Marine Railway, it was immortalised in Herman Wouk's novel Dont Stop the Carnival.

Water Island
In 1996, Water Island became the fourth Virgin Islands, obtained from the US Dept. of interior. Being used as a strategic military base during the second world war where it was here that the US Army Chemical Warfare Division used to test chemical warfare agents. Today it is a quiet, very non commercial island with a few residents and some historical remains of plantations, a fort and bunkers; green hills, beaches, birds, iguana, and turtles.

Creque Marine Railway
Constructed in the 1840s by a group of Danish businessmen, the Creque Marine Railway represents probably the oldest steam operated marine railway in existence. Many parts can still be seen today of the old machines that were run from surplus steam. Originally, the railway could haul vessels of 200-300 tons. By the 1870s it did 1200 tons, accommodating the larger vessels calling on St. Thomas.
